The murder of civilians by other civilians wielding assault rifles and hand guns captures our attention, however briefly. Sandy Hook’s massacre is still fresh in our minds, but so are the killings in Aurora, Colo., and at the Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, Wisc. So far these murders have had little effect on laws regulating gun ownership in the United States.

The Boston Marathon Bombing has exposed another ugly facet of gun violence, the inordinate use of deadly force by law enforcement in the apprehension and interrogation of suspected criminals. This abuse of power is often swept under the rug, never properly addressed and the crimes never prosecuted.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston Marathon suspect now in custody in a federal medical facility awaiting trial, had holed up in a boat in Watertown, Mass., subject to a city-wide manhunt.

He was unarmed and under observation by a "forward looking infrared ... Read more »

Where is Aunt Maret Tsarnaeva?

TORONTO - The Toronto aunt of the two Boston bombing suspects says she has been the target of threats since saying publicly that her nephews were framed.

"They are calling us, calling names, threatening, saying it’s time to go home,” Maret Tsarnaeva said Saturday. "Yes, it is time. We did not find that promise — democracy — in this country.”

"But if I go home, I will go home only with bodies of my nephews,” she added.

The group is worried by reports the FBI is rolling out a large-scale project

Technology watchdog group the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has filed a Freedom of Information request asking the U.S. Justice Department for records relating to the Federal Bureau of Information (FBI)’s facial recognition system.

The FBI plans to roll out a large-scale version of the system, which has been in development over the past several years, in 2014. Ultimately, the Next Generation Identification, or NGI, system is intended to replace the current fingerprint system used to compile information on criminals and terrorists, as well as data gathered for background checks during employment applications.

Forget Paula Deen. There are far more dangerous bigots and poisonous haters spoiling the American landscape. They cook up violent rhetoric and murderous plots against our troops, our citizens and our allies 24/7. And they have direct access to the White House.

The Investigative Project on Terrorism just blew the whistle on the Obama administration’s latest flirtation with Muslim jihad. Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah bragged on his Web site that he had met with Team Obama on June 13. IPT reported that bin Bayyah was invited by National Security Council official Gayle Smith "to learn from you and we need to be looking for new mechanisms to communicate with you and the Association of Muslim Scholars.”

Someone associated with bin Bayyah deleted an online reference to the meeting, ... Read more »
