The House Homeland Security Committee’s hearing Wednesday on the Boston Marathon bombing was conspicuously missing a witness from the agency at the center of the investigation—the Federal Bureau of Investigation—and the debate could grow heated over that fact.

The FBI’s absence is striking. Its role in handling warnings from Russian officials about the deceased terrorist suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev—who was investigated and later fell off the radar—has been called into question.

Whether federal law enforcement officials failed to connect the dots that could have prevented the tragedy remains under investigation by the House Homeland Security ... Read more »

Boston's federal courthouse was blanketed in security and swarming with news media Wednesday as the city braced for the arraignment of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev -- his first public appearance since the April 15 Boston Marathon bombings.

Outside the John Joseph Moakley U.S. Courthouse on the South Boston waterfront, more than a dozen TV news trucks took up every curbside spot. Ribbon-encased sidewalk space, reserved for TV cameras, quickly filled up. Camera operators then scrambled for sidewalk space across the street, where they vied to catch a glimpse of the suspect on his w ... Read more »

The "Free Jahar” movement was out in full force Wednesday for the court appearance of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, with dozens of supporters who believe he is innocent of terrorism charges.

"Give Dzhokhar back his life,” one protester shouted outside the Moakley Courthouse in Boston, hours before the 19-year-old Tsarnaev was set to appear in federal court for his arraignment.
A group of "Free Jahar” supporters clashed with one man who was visibly angry that anyone would back the Boston bombing suspect.

"You guys are a bunch of s**mbags,” the man says as captured by My Fox Boston cameras. "You should be embarrassed. You’re a bunch of pieces of s***.” Related

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the alleged Boston Marathon bomber, made his first public appearance since the April 15 attack Wednesday in a federal court room and pleaded not guilty to a sweeping terrorism indictment that carries the possibility of the death penalty.

With 30 bombing victims in the courtroom, some wearing the Boston Marathon gear, Tsarnaev entered "not guilty” pleas in a thick accent seven times to groups of charges including using a weapon of mass destruction.
His attorney,
Judy Clarke, sought to enter the pleas on his behalf, but US Magistrate Judge Marianne B. Bowler ordered Tsarnaev to answer himself. The judge also indicated that any victims had the opportunity to speak at the brief hearin ... Read more »

When Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the 19-year-old accused of the Boston Marathon bombings, arrived for his arraignment at a federal courthouse in Boston on Wednesday morning, he rolled in with an entourage -- "a four-vehicle motorcade that included a van, a Humvee and a state police car,” the Associated Press reported -- and was greeted by cheering fangirls.

WASHINGTON _ The chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday lambasted the Federal Bureau of Investigation for what he called attempts to "stonewall” congressional investigations of the events leading up to the Boston Marathon bombings.

In opening the panel’s second hearing on the attacks, Representative Michael McCaul, a Republican from Texas, criticized the FBI for not appearing before the committee. The FBI interviewed the alleged bombers two years before they set off a pair of explosives at the April 15 finish line.

"The FBI has refused to appear, and continues to refuse this committee’s appropriate requests for information and documents crucial to our ... Read more »
